House at the End of the Street (2012) stars Jennifer Lawerence and Max Thieriot, and I always assumed it was just a typical teen horror from the bits that I’ve seen. But until I sat down and watched the entirety, I discovered it’s not typical at all. The truth, though, it’s not horror at all, it’s a thriller, and it’s filled with suspense.
Based on the title and the parts that I’d seen in the past, I assumed it was like Last House of the Left (1972 or 2009) or something like that. Unlike those films, there’s no chopping and hacking of bodies. At least, the suspense outweighed the slow moments.
The backstory is sad and filled in along the way, then becomes an unexpected twist that I wasn’t prepared to experience. This movie is anything but typical, but at times it felt like they didn’t know where to go and made things up as they went along without real planning or timing. I can forgive that, though, since I liked what I was seeing.
If you’re looking for something with great suspense and exciting twists, watch House at the End of the Street. I give it 3.5 out of 5 Stars.
