I’m not sure what I was expecting when I came across The Crucifixion (2017). I had a baseline understanding of the premise based on the short blurb; a woman investigates a death that happened during an exorcism in Bucharest.
The scenes with the possessions and exorcism were exciting, too bad they scattered those bits throughout a movie that felt more obsessed with itself than it cared to help me connect with Nicole Rawlins (Sophie Cookson) and her plight. The dull moments dominated most of the film with a few thrills that barely kept me awake.
That’s not to say that the entire thing was terrible. As I said, the possessions and exorcism were good, as were Nicole’s naughty sex dreams of the hot priest. The investigation itself returned nothing favorable for the story or the priest and nuns the authorities charged with murder. I see how they attempted to bring in elements like the Da Vinci Code and films of that ilk, but failed miserably.
I wouldn’t bother with The Crucifixion, then again, it could be that my expectations of something amazing being out there. I give it 2.5 out of 5 Stars.
