The Jack in the Box (2019) was a last-minute addition to my 2019 watch list that appeared to have something to offer that was different from all the blandness that I had experienced that year. When it finally became included in Prime, I decided to watch it and see if I’d suffer more disappointment.
The Jack in the Box starts with a man looking for coins in a field with a metal detector and discovers a mysterious box in the ground. I was impressed that I didn’t have to wait long for the action with Jack to start, though the opening was a little off-putting because there was no speaking, so I wondered if it was going to be a reintroduction to silent films. It was not, thankfully.
In the next scene, they introduce the characters and it’s pretty tame for a while, but not that long. The Jack that is shown appears rather innocuous, almost cute in its creepy way. When more killing happens, it’s a total slasher style, which makes me happy in my own demented way.
The acting isn’t the best, and it’s very apparent that they spent their money from the low budget for effects; the bottom of the barrel performances didn’t hinder the film at least.
In the end, I was very satisfied with The Jack in the Box, it’s worth at least one watch. I give it 4 out of 5 Stars.
