I didn’t know about The Darkness (2016) until Netflix alerted me of its presence. After the opening sequence, I couldn’t help but think that it was going to turn into a Poltergeist-like movie, which is fine, that’s one of my all-time favorites. It did.

The DarknessThe build-up is intense, weaving in family drama. Peter (Kevin Bacon) doesn’t want anyone to know that Mikey (David Mazouz) is Autistic, which is strange that it’s a secret, and he really doesn’t want to talk about the strangeness that is happening in their house.

The strangeness and how the dark entities work is very cool, and they brought in some subtle visual effects to go along with them. Of course, like so many movies of this millennium, it takes a while to get to it. At least, as I said before, the build-up was intense. Then there are things that I didn’t understand, like bringing in a Mexican Healer to remove Native American spirits. That didn’t deter me from enjoying the Darkness; it was just one of those things that make me go hmmm.

4 Stars

The Darkness is definitely worth your time. I give it 4 out of 5 Stars.
