The blackness percolated through the manhole cover. Its darkness turned day to night. The light of the lamps was minimal. He looked out the window, barely seeing the cars in the alley. He slid the patio door open and reached his hand into the darkness. He retracted them and closed the door as he began to itch. The blackness covered his skin with an oily film. He watched as minute drops of moisture effervesced to the surface of the dark slick. The black substance caused blisters on his flesh, which erupted. Drops of his liquefied flesh splashed on the floor.
