After all the hype over Get Out (2017), including its Oscar Nominations, I decided to watch it. A few friends have told me it’s nothing special. But how is that possible with its Oscar Nominations? They never pick lemons (yes, that was sarcasm.) Get Out is listed under the Mystery/Thriller genre, which means there aren’t fantastic monsters stalking people; only people.

At around half-way through, I wanted to scream, not out of fright, but because I was bored. I felt like I was watching another horrendous episode of This Is Us. While there were good moments, I had a hard time getting through to the end where it finally got exciting. The strange interludes were appeasing, teasing me to finish, and Lil Rel Howery helped to keep me interested; at least he was funny. The way the maid and groundskeeper acted, I wondered if I was watching a remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, then Soylent Green came to mind.

OK, I don’t get it at all, why all that boring shit for three-quarters of the movie. I got the subtle hints along the way, and the social commentary, and the stop smoking campaign. I honestly don’t know why this movie received so many Oscar Nominations and the win it did. I am not a fan and wish I had listened to my friends when they said not to bother.

It had a few good moments and Lil Rel, so based on that I’ll give it 2.5 out of 5 Stars.
