Shut In is a predictable nightmare that goes from one melodramatic scene to another, though it did entertain. OK that was a little mean. Maybe, if it had held my attention completely, I would’ve enjoyed it more, but I kept getting bored, and at one point, I thought I was looking at the Stanley from The Shining.
This movie is the combination of several that have been reconfigured so many times it’s hard to tell what I’m seeing any more. On the bright side, Naomi Watts did a great job with her role as Mary Portman, who cares for her stepson after he was put in a vegetative state from injuries he received in a car accident that killed his father.
Let me correct what I said earlier, the first half of the movie was boring, then when Mary’s doctor accuses her of self-medicating, the movie picks up and gets dark and creepy and gross; just the way I like it. I just wish the first half was as good, though, there are still regurgitated themes. I was impressed that she paid attention to her bindings, and for all of her braveness; I was amazed on how calm she was, no screaming or anything.
All in all, I give it 3 out of 5 Stars, could’ve been so much better.
