#HorrorMovie Review – Gothic Harvest (2019) #PromoteHorror

Gothic Harvest (2019) is one of the movies that was added to my 2019 watch list late. I learned about it accidentally and added it because of Lin Shaye and Bill Moseley’s involvement. Had it not been for their names, I probably would’ve skipped it and missed a great erotic horror.

There is minimal information about the film on the internet, so it’s amazing that I even knew it existed. Here’s what IMDb says: GOTHIC HARVEST tells the chilling tale of four co-eds who head to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. When one of them disappears after connecting with a charming local, her friends race to find her before she falls victim to a sadistic Southern family plagued by a centuries-old voodoo curse.

I’ve heard of some mean Voodoo curses before, but the one Marie Laveau lays on the Boudine family is pretty mean; it’s like the Groundhog’s Day Curse. Janee Michelle is magnificent as Marie, a definite highlight of the film. That’s not to say the other characters weren’t as strong. Lin Shaye plays Griselda, the demented family matriarch. The sexy siblings who go out every Mardi Gras to find fresh blood are very seductive; Sofia Mattsson looked very comfortable in her role as Amelia Boudine, and Ashley Hamilton as Gargol was a perfect fit. After seeing Bill Mosely as Otis Driftwood for so many years, I was surprised to find him funny as Detective Hollis. Well, then again, Otis is comical, too.

The only thing that disappointed me about Gothic Harvest was that they didn’t show more of the BDSM action. Gothic Harvest keeps the scares subtle, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t there. The entire film is chilling when I think about it, and that’s what makes it good.

I give Gothic Harvest 4 out of 5 Stars.
