Before I Wake (2016) wasn’t exactly a disappointment, but I thought there was so much more that could’ve been done with it to make it exceptionally horrifying. Using dreams and nightmares in supernatural stories, horror or not, is always fun for me, and that was how Dreamwalker: The Second Plain was born. While the Second Plain is about a man who can control dreams, Before I Wake has a similar aspect, bringing them into the real world to either delight or terrify.
The Canker Man was freaky, but not really terrifying, and I’m still not completely sure what it was or how it was so easily tamed. Like I said at the beginning, there was so much more to be done and told. The connection between the drowning and the rest of it didn’t really congeal for me and left me wondering how it all fit together.
I loved the visuals and they were the saving grace for this disconnected movie.
I give it 3 out of 5 Stars.
