The Lodgers (2017) is an Irish Gothic Horror flick that was far from disappointing. I thought Crimson Peak was gorgeous, this is just as exceptional. It’s creepy and strange and dark with a layer of romance. I have a thing for period pieces and Gothic Horror, and this was a great combination of the two.

At first, I wasn’t sure about the trapdoor in the floor at the foot of the steps, it seemed out of place, and still does, but for me that was the bad part of the movie. The house is beautiful, and the perfect setting for this tale of a family curse.

Edward is Rachel’s creepy brother, and he broods in the house while she’s out on the property in the daylight. His insanity thickens as the story goes on, accepting the terms of the curse and what they must do easily. Rachel isn’t so easily swayed to want to take part in their destiny and does what she must to escape.

I definitely recommend The Lodgers, and if you have Netflix you don’t have an excuse for not seeing it. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
