Fantasy Island (2020) is a remake of sorts of the 1978 TV series of the same name. If anything it’s a prequel, which is fine, I guess, but the TV series is much better. But I’m not saying that was great either. Another reason why I’m not sure they bothered.

Fantasy IslandI’m not really sure what expected or why I was disappointed (I should’ve known better). The movie starts similarly to the TV series with Mr. Rourke welcoming guests to the island, minus Tattoo. The opening scene is probably the best part of the movie and gave me hope that they were going for it.

The rest of Fantasy Island is much like the series with wishes and dreams coming true, all kind of wishy-washy boring drama if you ask me. I was hoping there’d be more thrills throughout, but I wouldn’t even consider this horror. Shame on Blumhouse Productions for threatening me with a good time, then leaving me bored.

2.5 Stars

If you were a fan of the series back in the day, you might like Fantasy Island, otherwise, move along, this isn’t anything to see. I give it 2.5 out of 5 Stars.
