With 2020 the way it was, I’m not surprised that I never heard of Gates of Darkness (2020), and had it not been for Tubi, I might have missed it completely. The cast is an interesting mix of people I’ve never seen before and ones that I’ve seen several times before. And based on one of these actors, I expected more Soap Opera style acting, but I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t like that at all.
The movie revolves around Stephen Tade, who does not fit into the Catholic school he’s forced to attend. His step-father is on the douchey side and is probably the worst character in the whole film. Tobin Bell is Monsignor Canell, who is always good to watch.
Stephen’s nightmares/daydreams are frightening, and when they go to a funeral for his grandfather, nothing is revealed. I was surprised by how much content was in this film and how fast it went. Brandon Beemer plays Father Dumal, who is intertwined in what happened to Stephen.
And that’s all I’m going to say because anything else would spoil this tremendous account of possession. I gave Gates of Darkness 4 out of 5 Stars.
A strange #horror film to keep you guessing. Gates of Darkness. Click To Tweet
