Besides the cheese level, Madman (1982) doesn’t have much going for it. The way it began with people exchanging scary stories around a campfire, I expected much more. I thought it interesting, though, that there was a Lizzy Borden reference. They even added a clever reference to King Arthur, too. I didn’t understand why a “summer camp” would be open until the weekend before Thanksgiving.
That’s not to say that the entire movie was horrible, I watched the entirety, so it must not have been that bad. For example, I love the use of camera angles, and they gave several that were creepy. The gore, when it finally happened, was pleasing with garish red bubbling from wounds.
I kept eyeing the females, wondering which was going to be the last girl, and I was certainly surprised by the outcome. The first kill was relatively quick, and then I had to wait forever for the next ones. There were some serious timing issues with the killer, too. He had so many missed opportunities.
Madman did hit the spot with gore, it just took forever for it to happen, and that is why I only gave it 2.5 out of 5 Stars.
Madman is one of the most boring #slasher #films I've ever seen. Click To Tweet
