Starfish (2018) is a science fiction horror film that I hadn’t heard anything about before finding it onDemand. It revolves around Aubrey, a young woman who has returned to the town she once lived with her best friend for her funeral. In the beginning, I wasn’t sure if I cared, then as it progressed I became intrigued and riveted to find out what was going to happen next.
The strange occurrence with world changing outside the door is subtle, and I can’t truly say that it happened or if what I was seeing was the delusions of a woman who’d lost her nut. The monsters were frightening and familiar looking, though I’m not sure where I’ve seen something similar.
Why the movie was named Starfish is beyond me, since the only reference was her feeding jellyfish them. Another thing that baffled me was Aubrey going out to find cassette tapes taking the turtle with her into the snowy world that was brought on by the monsters who seemed to have been summoned by a sequence of recordings.
In the end, I couldn’t tell you if Aubrey was having delusions or if the monsters really come to the world of Starfish, but then again, either way makes it amazing. I give it 4 out of 5 Stars.
