Now, where were we? Dr. William Burroughs

A remake of a film I’ve never seen is still a remake; well, I don’t remember seeing Rabid (1977) anyway. Now that I’ve seen Rabid (2019), I’m not going to make an effort to find the original; this ruined whatever qualities it may have.

For whatever reason, I got it into my head that this film was going to be a werewolf movie, and at times it gave me the impression that’s what it was, and then it went sideways and turned into a “patient zero” movie, which of course led into zombie-Esque mutations, but with rabies.

Most of the film was flat with little build of excitement. It just happened, or did it? That was something that annoyed me, well besides Rose waking from a dream, oh wait, yeah that’s the same one. How many times do you have to do the same thing?

The make-up effects and gore were very well done, and probably the best part of the film, though, for a change, the acting was much better than I expected. The only weak performance was from Phil Brooks, a.k.a CM Punk, who acted no different than how he does in the ring. I give them a thumbs up for the homage to Masque of the Red Death (1964) as the operating attire.

I still wish Rabid was a werewolf movie, and not what it turned out to be; I guess I should’ve paid closer attention to the trailer. That wish aside, I was bored for much of the film when I wasn’t annoyed with the redundancies and can only give it 2.5 out of 5 Stars.
