Stranger Things, It, Silver Bullet, Disturbia, Fright Night…I could go on, but I think you get the point. The story in Summer of 84 (2018) isn’t anything astounding or original, but it is suspenseful waiting to learn the truth. My biggest problem with this movie was the time it took to get anywhere.
Did all the Indie movies of 2018 have porn music for the score? At least they used real 80s music, too, well one track. I’m not sure what else to say about this film, it’s not as exciting as I had expected; I’ve seen more shocking on Law & Order or CSI.
I can’t say that it didn’t hold my interest, because it did. The teenage antics kept the movie alive, just not the “horror.” I’m not sure how this movie got put into the genre; it’s not even horror-lite in my book. Even with the real thrills not happening until the last thirty minutes doesn’t make it a bad movie by any means as it was well written, acted, and produced.
The tension is excellent for a crime drama. I enjoyed Summer of 84 and gave it 3.5 out of 5 Stars.
