I thought Jason was destroyed in toxic waste in the last installment, but whatever, we wouldn’t have Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993) if that were the case, and, somehow, he is back at Crystal Lake. I don’t understand what possessed the Coroner to eat Jason’s heart.
Out of all the Jason movies, this must be the strangest I’ve seen so far. Jason’s soul is transferred to one person to another via a black tentacle that comes from the hosts mouth. And I thought Jason Takes Manhattan was bad, but this is ridiculous, the effects aren’t even good. And don’t get me started on the over acting by Steven Williams as Creighton Duke. It’s one of those movies that I couldn’t stop watching, no matter how awful it was. Then it happened, Freddy Krueger took Jason’s mask; you’ve got to be kidding me.
This one barely gets 1 out of 5 Stars.
Instead of leaving it alone, they did Jason X (2001), another I haven’t seen until recently. Just because eight years have gone by since the last installment and Jason was taken to hell doesn’t mean that they can’t create a new arc in the Friday the 13th Universe.
Wow, Kane Hodder has really beefed up, Jason could somewhat put his arms to his sides before, but now he can’t. Cryogenics have kept Jason frozen for 445 years, and students on a field trip find him and the doctor that got him into the chamber. It seems that in 2455 Earth is beyond hosed and no one lives here anymore; I don’t doubt that prediction.
Now we have a Jason Sci-Fi adventure; oh, I know, Jason vs. HAL. Jason X is a fun interlude but not really anything different except the setting. His new look is cool, I’m not sure what that stuff was that revived him, though, making him a cyborg.
I give Jason X 3 out of 5 Stars.
So, let me get this straight, Freddy enlists Jason to get people to remember Freddy on Elm Street. Freddy Vs. Jason (2003) starts with flashbacks from the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, then moves to Crystal Lake and Jason. This is the last of the Jason and Freddy movies that I haven’t seen until recently.
I had to stop thinking about what I was seeing, and just watch the movie, because there are so many things wrong with it. Freddy vs Jason, who wins? Honestly, I don’t know, maybe, a draw. Doesn’t really matter. Honestly, this isn’t the worst of either franchise, and after five years, I’m glad I saw it.
Even with all the flaws, I give Freddy vs. Jason 3.5 out of 5 Stars.
