Troll (1986) is one of those forgotten gems, well for me anyway, that is totally underrated. Harry Potter and his family, yes, you read that right, Harry Potter, move into an apartment building where a Troll lurks, then disguises himself as Harry, Jr’s little sister, Wendy. It’s like the forgotten Magical Creatures prequel, filled with an assortment of beasts and monsters, and of course, magic.
80s style effects are always fun, well not always, and Troll uses stop-animation, costumes and graphics that were popular and groundbreaking at the time. Wendy reminds me of Carol Anne, well mostly the actress, the roll isn’t as similar. The layer of campiness makes the film enjoyable, where otherwise it would’ve been bland, and they didn’t waste time introducing all the characters.
For all the shortcomings and tackiness, I enjoyed Troll and give it 3.5 out of 5 Stars.
