Since there are a few movies of the same name, I wasn’t sure that I was watching Hex (2019) that made my watch list. The release date is a bit bizarre, too, but the official USA release is September 6, 2019, so I’m going with that for the year. And, yes, it’s the movie that made it to the list. Now that I have all that out of the way, I should say, I understand why it was on the original list in the category I won’t die if I don’t see it.
It’s nothing special, though several moments could’ve been spectacular, but it was like they didn’t know how to reach greatness. For the longest time, I thought it was a dramatic romance with Amber, who was an attention seeker. I wasn’t ever sure if she was telling the truth. One moment she had epilepsy, then she had a conjoined twin that died.
When excitement finally came, I was underwhelmed, even with the disembowelment. My favorite moment was with the creepy dude and his thugs, but it was short-lived as was he. There were other creepy bits, too, as well as the ‘what the fuck is going on’ parts that dominated the film. Ben has some disturbing dreams that seemed better than his reality.
I can’t in good conscience recommend this movie, especially if you want horror. It didn’t even make it to horror-lite for me and was barely a thriller. I give it 2.5 out of 5 Stars.
