All the Boys Love Mandy Lane is one of those teen slasher movies. It starts with Emmet, who’s obviously in love with Mandy Lane, though he’s never confessed it, defending her at a pool party. One of the “older” teen boys wants her as his girlfriend or at least a hook up, and Emmet gives him advice, talking the drunk kid into doing something stupid., which ends in tragedy.
This movie has an awesome 80s feeling, including the music; how great is it to hear the Go-Go’s? It’s like Friday the 13th with the teenagers going to a remote location, even without Jason it’s just as great. Of course, knowing how these types of movies go, I was at the edge of my seat waiting for the splatter to begin, then when it didn’t come, and it didn’t come, I sat back, wishing it was happening. When it did happen, it was bland, then the waiting started again.
At least when the expected happened, it was deranged and delightful. Imagine my surprise when they gave away the culprit so early. I mean toy with us a little, make us wonder who’s doing it. I guess they wanted to change it up, then out of the blue, they did, giving me unexpected delight and a huge grin.
I give All the Boys Love Mandy Lane 4 out of 5 Stars.
