The Super (2018) is another of those movies that were released in other parts of the world a year before the USA, and since that’s where I live, I will use that year. When I first started watching, I was concerned with the possible rip-off of The Shining because of the focus on the boiler. While it’s obvious The Shining had influence, it wasn’t a facsimile. I’d be disappointed with Dick Wolf if it had.

I admit that I’m a network TV crime-drama fanboy, including most of Dick Wolf’s resume, and I was a little surprised to find Patrick John Flueger in the lead role; he’s from Chicago PD. I also found it interesting that his acting was the same on TV as it was portraying Phil Lodge. He is a good brooder, so maybe that’s why he got the role. Val Kilmer on the other hand, how can you go wrong? Well, besides Batman.

The Super satisfied my need for blood and suspense so thick you could cut it with a boxcutter. The fast pace kept me on the edge of my seat and glued to the screen. And the best part, I wasn’t too quick to figure out who was responsible for the brutal murders. I was surprised by the unexpected twist and delighted how it all came together with the sinister ending.

I 100% recommend The Super and I give it 4.5 out of 5 Stars.
