#BlastFromThePast #HorrorMovie - Night of the Demons (1988)

Dang, with only the opening credits and score, I’m hooked, and I want to see Night of Demons (1988). Is it because of the cheesy synthesizer sounds? Maybe. Could it be the strange animations? Another possibility. Whatever piqued my interest so quickly, movie makers of today need to figure out, because I’m tired of the crap horror movies that have been plaguing the world in this century.

Looking back at some of my favorites during the 80s, I must admit that the acting in Friday The 13th or Nightmare on Elm Street wasn’t great either, but I was able to connect with the characters because at least their inept acting skills seemed comedic, unlike today where they entirely miss the campy feel of a B-Movie. Recently, I started watching two different movies with horrendous acting. I quit them at around fifteen minutes. Had there been something, anything balancing it out, I might have kept watching.

Night of the Demons has the familiar flare that proves great acting isn’t needed to pull me in and keep me satisfied. At times, it felt like I was watching a Scooby Doo adaptation, or even a spin-off of Evil Dead, and it worked since I’m attracted to both. Night of the Demons has special effects that are fun, and, the best part, good. Cathy Podewell, who plays Judy, is a great screamer, and when she let them loose, it was spine-tingling.

Dennis Michael Tenney is responsible for the unusual late 80s hair band sound with the songs scattered throughout the score; my favorite is The Beast Inside that plays during the closing credits. There’s also a Bauhaus track, Stigmata Martyr, thrown in for extra flavor.

If you’re able to find it, don’t hesitate, watch it! I give it 4.5 out of 5 Stars.
