#HorrorMovie #Original #Classics - Pet Sematary (1989) & Two (1992)

I don’t know about you, but I’m excited about the upcoming Pet Sematary remake, and I’m not a big advocate of remakes. However, they do serve the purpose of getting the story out there again; I wonder if the hope is that viewers will find the original and watch it too. Well, in preparation I’m watching both movies, and telling you my thoughts; I’ve never seen the Two, so this should be interesting.

Pet Sematary (1989) has always been a favorite of mine, and I’ve seen and read the book a few times over the years. The simplicity of the story is probably one of the biggest reasons it hits the top of my list. The fear of death and what happens after we die is the main topic, swirled with the dark wish to never lose the ones we love. Just remember, sometimes dead is better.

I cringe every time I see Gage chasing the kite string into the road…it’s probably one of the most emotional, heart-wrenching scenes that I’ve ever read or seen. Gage is just as creepy before he dies, though, his voice and his appearance are freaky, no wonder they cast Miko Hughes to portray him. Fred Gwynne is an exceptional character actor, and his role as Jud Crandall has to be one his best.

Please, before the remake comes out, see the original Pet Sematary. I give it 4.5 out of 5 Stars.

This is the first time that I’ve seen Pet Sematary Two (1992) and it’s not as horrible as I thought it would be. The cast is good, it has Anthony Edwards, and Clancy Brown sporting a strange accent. It’s almost as though the producer got her inspiration from other King stories involving kids.

I appreciate what they were trying to do with this movie even if they didn’t hit the mark on the delivery; not all failed. Had I never seen the original or read the book, I would’ve been lost about the Sematary as the little bits here and there that were dropped didn’t give much information; I know it’s self-explanatory after the dog is buried there. The movie has many fluff scenes that really didn’t build the story, but I guess they needed to fill the time.

I did enjoy Pet Sematary Two, it had some good bits, but not enough for me to give it more than 3 out of 5 Stars.
