Down A Dark Hall (2018) tries very hard to be scary. While the suspense and thrills are quite intense at times, it’s still “horror-lite.” I know it’s based on a young-adult novel, so maybe that’s why it’s held back.

I like the cast and set and the story, which is more paranormal suspense than horror. The hallucinations/visions are interesting and on the edgy side. The reason for the five girls being accepted to the private school was for their disciplinary problems in school and home. And it’s not too difficult to figure out the reason these girls are there. Having not read the book or even knowing of its existence until reading about this movie, I don’t know if it also gave away its secrets so easily.

Overall, I enjoyed Down A Dark Hall and recommend you watching it. I give it 3.5 out of 5 Stars.
